Encaustic Classes, Workshops & Tours: Fall 2011

Interested in learning about encaustic art and the encaustic process? Several FUSEDChicago members teach classes and workshops demonstrating the versatile use of this medium.

Jenny Learner:

• One- and Two-day Workshops in Jenny’s studio, privately and small groups. Visit her website for more information

• Ongoing Encaustic Beginner and Intermediate Workshop at Lillstreet Art Center every Sunday afternoon 2-5. 5-week sessions. (Best deal – only $10.00 an hour!)

• Encaustic 101: Painting and Collage at The Art Center in Highland Park on Thursday nights 6-9, 6-week sessions.

• Visiting Artist at the Highland Park High School and Pulaski International School.

• Encaustic: Girls Night Out Night celebrations at Jenny’s exhibit/demo space at Zhou B. Art Center. All age groups.

• October 8-9th, 2011: Hot Wax Intensive- 2 day encaustic retreat along with Bridgette Guerzon Mills at Whispering Woodlands, Verona , WI.

• October 15th: Saturday, Noon -5 pm. “BEEArt” Encaustic workshop at Zhou B Art Center (beginners and intermediate). Last hour will be devoted to making “BeeArt” and if student’s want to they can have the piece on exhibit at the Zhou B Art Center for “Third Friday Open House” in hallway gallery on the 3rd floor. Cost: $125.00 includes materials, snack and mini tour of the building.

• October 22nd: Saturday, 1-4 pm: In celebration of Chicago Artists Month Jenny will be giving a free drop in encaustic demo and try and the Zhou B Art Center. There will be free trollies for Chicago Artists Month going from participating studios, galleries, and art centers in the Bridgeport neighborhood the whole weekend of the 22nd and 23rd.

• An intermediate encaustic class at Lillstreet on Friday afternoons 2-5 pm. A tween class has also been added to the encaustic department. 10 – 14 year olds on Mondays after school from 4-5:30.

Bridgette Guerzon Mills:

• October 8-9th: Hot Wax Intensive- 2 day encaustic retreat along with Jenny Leaner at Whispering Woodlands, Verona , WI.

• November 13th, 2011: 3-hour introduction to encaustic workshop and mixed media techniques at Perfical Sense Studio, Evanston, IL. Check with her blog for the upcoming workshops.

Sarah Rehmer:

• September 30th and October 1, 2011: 2-day Image Transfer Workshop at Peninsula Art School in Fish Creek, WI . Workshop is open for registration. There is an Iron Pour happening in the evening on day 2 of the workshop! This workshop is not exclusively encaustic, but includes transfer techniques on wax.

• October 13th-15th: Encaustic Painting Workshop at The Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles. All supplies are included in the cost of the workshop.

• Nov 18th-20th: Encaustic Painting Workshop at LaGrange Art League. All supplies are included with the workshop.

Interested in learning about the ancient art of encaustic? VA. de Pintor gives tours at the Field Museum in the Ancient Egypt section.
